THE ECHO FACTORY FORTNIGHT
Our guide to top Leicester Arts and Music events over the next two weeks
The sun’s out and students up and down the country are eagerly anticipating the arrival of the summer holidays. Perhaps it’s time to celebrate the end of exams, moving on to a new era or think about options for the future?
Leicestershire students have already plunged into the long summer break. So why do schools and colleges in this county break up earlier than the rest of the UK?
Historically, Leicester workers and families celebrated the ‘Leicester Factory Fortnight’ in August. In the 1960s, this traditional holiday switched to early July and Leicestershire schools have kept to this early break-up time ever since. The holiday fortnight would be the perfect opportunity for the city’s workers and their families to venture to the East Coast. In fact, the seaside town of Mablethorpe still plays home to the ‘Leicester Children’s Holiday Centre’ – a place where Leicester children can apply to enjoy a free holiday.
At Echo Factory, we’re celebrating the early start to the summer holidays by going to as many exciting events as we can! Who needs to go away when there’s so much great entertainment on your doorstep?
